At Membury School we believe in combining first-rate, high-quality education with fun and family values.
Because we have small classes, we can give our children the individual teaching and care which mean that each child can reach his or her full academic potential and move on to our excellent local grammar school, Colyton Grammar School, or other secondary schools within our learning community. But we know that school is about a lot more than just academics – we help our children to develop life skills, good behaviour, consideration for others and confidence in their own abilities.
At Membury School there is a strong bond between teachers and children in a rich and stimulating educational environment. We are constantly updating our ICT provision; this year we relocated our computer suite in the library where we have a computer for each child; we also have interactive whiteboards and ICT equipment in our individual classrooms. At Membury School the National Curriculum is supplemented by a wide variety of clubs, visits and activities.
Our children much enjoy using our excellent swimming pool, our all-weather pitch and larger outdoor apparatus, plus our sensory and vegetable gardens. This year we have added an outdoor learning area and established a forest school. We are also developing new outside areas in nearby land, to increase the diversity of the habitats we can use as an outdoor learning environment.
With all the advantages of a rural community we get involved with lots of community and village activities like the Harvest Festival, Christmas shows and village exhibitions. When the Parish Council were working on the “Village Design Statement” the children took part in the process, describing what they liked best about Membury; their contributions show how much they enjoy being in the village, near the church, village hall and shop, but also how much they appreciate the clean country air, the trees and the wildlife all around them. From within the local community volunteers enjoy coming to the school, passing on their skills like cooking and handy-craft.
In 2009 we were delighted to begin a management partnership with Kentisbeare Primary School. This means we can work together to share ideas and expertise for the benefit of the children of both schools. Our teachers can pool experience and share learning programmes, and our children have also much enjoyed shared sports events, plus day and residential trips.
We are really proud of our school, the children, staff, parents, PTFA, governors and the local community, who all work together to make it a warm, caring place in which our children can start to learn to become responsible and happy adults.
