    Membury Primary Academy recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils and expects all staff, Trustees and volunteers to share this commitment.    

    We recognise that all children, regardless of age, disability, SEND, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation have an equal right to protection from all types of harm or abuse.  

    We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse, neglect and exploitation and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us, children are aware of the adults they can talk to if they have a concern.  When there are concerns for a child’s welfare, we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies.  

    We will ensure concerns are discussed with parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that by doing so would be contrary to the child’s welfare.  This Child Protection and Safeguarding policy underpins and guides our safeguarding procedures and protocols.

    Operation Encompass

    The sharing of information between the Police and schools will allow early intervention support by Key Adults in schools. The aim of this support is to assist any child affected by domestic abuse to remain in school, so that they continue learning in a safe and secure environment. 

    What will we do?

    At Mrs Ethelston's Primary Academy, we will ensure that we will:

    • participate fully in Operation Encompass;

    • identify Key Adults;

    • complete the Log Sheet; and

    • complete the summary sheet for statistical and auditing purposes.                                                                                               

    We follow-up on any actions as directed by Operation Encompass and check on the welfare of pupils in school.

    E-Safety

    The internet provides access to a wealth of information and when used appropriately can enhance the children’s education.

    E-safety in our school is a priority, we are committed to ensure that our children stay safe online.

    • All teaching and non-teaching staff are aware and trained to recognise e-safety issues
    • High priority is given to training and continuation training to all staff, including the contribution of the wider school community.
    • Clear reporting processes of any incidents are in place
    • A progressive e-safety curriculum is provided for all children and continually updated
    • A recognised internet service provider (ISP) with age-related filtering is in place
    • Good risk assessment in place
    • Our E-safety policy is continually updated

    Prevent Duty

    In July 2015, the Government published advice for Governing bodies, school leaders and school staff. The advice explained what the Prevent Duty means for school and how schools should demonstrate compliance with the duty.

    The Prevent Duty is part of the school’s safeguarding procedures and practices.
